Fear Not: Fixing Our Eyes on Him

April 30, 2026

“My how this month has flown by.” And yet, in the midst of all that is happening around us—uncertainty, tension, and noise—it can feel like we are living in a constant undercurrent of fear.

In Gospel of Mark chapter 6, the disciples found themselves in a similar place. Jesus had told them to get into the boat, and as they obeyed, they struggled against the wind and waves. These were the same men who had just witnessed miracle after miracle—including the feeding of thousands with only a few loaves and fish. Still, when they saw Jesus walking on the water, they were terrified.

And what did He say to them?
“Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Mark 6:50)

How often do we do the same? We have seen God’s faithfulness in our lives—answered prayers, provision, strength in hard seasons—yet when new challenges come, fear rises quickly. We say we believe God is sovereign, but sometimes our reactions tell a different story.

Scripture reminds us that trials will come. We are not promised an easy path—but we are promised His presence.

In Second Epistle to the Corinthians 4:16–18, we are encouraged not to lose heart. Though outwardly things may feel like they are falling apart, inwardly we are being renewed day by day. And in Book of Habakkuk 3:17–19, even when everything visible is lacking, the prophet chooses joy in the Lord, declaring Him as strength.

Fear may still come—but it does not have to lead.

We can:

  • Fix our eyes on Him instead of our circumstances
  • Bring every worry honestly before Him
  • Remember His past faithfulness
  • Choose, moment by moment, to trust

Sometimes that trust looks like a simple, repeated prayer:
“I will not let fear win. I will look to Jesus. I will trust Him today.”

This doesn’t mean life won’t be hard or even painful. It doesn’t mean we will understand every “why.” But it does mean that in the middle of it all, God is at work—shaping us, strengthening us, and drawing us closer to Him.

So today, whatever you are facing, hear His words again:
“Take courage. It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Prayer:
Lord, You see how easily fear takes hold of our hearts. Help us to turn our eyes back to You again and again. Remind us of Your faithfulness, and teach us to trust You in every circumstance. Be our strength and our peace today. Amen.
