Have Faith in God

“Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Have faith in God.’” Mark 11:22

Four words. A simple command. Yet one of the greatest challenges of the Christian life.

At first glance, Jesus’ words seem straightforward: Have faith in God. But living those four words day after day is often much harder than reading them.

What does it really mean to have faith?

Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith is trust. It is confidence. It is relying on Someone even when we cannot see what He is doing.

The truth is, we exercise faith every day. We trust the brakes on our cars to stop when we press the pedal. We trust the food we buy at the grocery store is safe to eat. We trust our doctors to give sound medical advice and believe the medicine they prescribe will help us heal.

If we can place our confidence in so many imperfect people and things, how much more should we trust the One who is perfect?

So how are we doing when it comes to having faith in God?

Do we seek Him first in our daily lives, or only after we’ve exhausted every other option? Do we truly believe He is with us every moment of every day? Do we trust that He still hears and answers prayer? Do we rest in the assurance that nothing escapes His notice—that He sees every joy, every heartache, every victory, and every disappointment?

Life has a way of pulling our attention toward its storms. Unexpected diagnoses, financial pressures, broken relationships, unanswered questions, and uncertain futures all compete for our focus.

Where are our eyes?

Are they fixed on the swirling turmoil around us, or are they fixed on the One who walks on the waves?

Faith doesn’t deny the storm. It simply declares that God is greater than the storm.

Jesus’ command wasn’t, “Have faith in your circumstances.” It wasn’t, “Have faith in yourself.” It was simply, “Have faith in God.”

Today, whatever you are facing, choose to place your confidence in Him. He is faithful even when life feels uncertain. He is present even when you feel alone. And He is working even when you cannot yet see the outcome.

Prayer:

Father, strengthen my faith. Help me to trust You more than I trust my fears. Lift my eyes above the circumstances that surround me and fix them on You. Remind me that You are always with me, always at work, and always faithful. Teach me to live each day with confidence in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
